01 / THE ARGUMENTSame numbers. Different conclusions.

These are the strongest competing readings of the discussion. Quotes are excerpts; the argument summaries are our synthesis.

The real disagreement

Most participants accept that the business grew enormously. The debate is whether recent growth can support the proposed valuation and future compute spending. Strong quarterly growth and a slowing exit pace can both be true.

03 / THE MEASUREMENT PROBLEMOne quarter, several run rates.

Quarterly revenue, a monthly annualization and an end-of-month pace answer different questions. Keep their units and assumptions visible.

NUMBERWHAT IT MEANS
$16.8BRevenue earned over Q3.Reported by FT and Reuters.

Calculation: September pace × (1 + monthly growth)³. The multiple uses equity value, not enterprise value.

AUTHOR’S ASSUMPTIONAUG–SEP MONTHLY GROWTHSEP REVENUE × 12SEP 30 PACE
July $65B means a full month annualized; a smooth growth path~3.4%~$69B~$71B
July $65B instead means the pace on July 31~6.6%~$71B~$74B

The third row’s July premise is not fully resolved by the public data. This reproduces the author’s scenario figures without endorsing the model.

04 / BEFORE DRAWING A CONCLUSIONClaims worth separating.

A quote verifies what someone said. It does not make an estimate, rumor or loose accounting term a company disclosure.

The alleged $18B expectation

P Equity Research says it was told the buyside expected $18B. That makes $16.8B a $1.2B, or 6.7%, miss against this particular rumor. It is not a documented consensus survey.

Distillation: mechanism vs. magnitude

Anthropic acknowledges turning away paying distillers. The 5–6% revenue impact is unverified. The company’s separate 90–99% figure refers to reduced data harvesting, not a revenue loss.

Profit, adjusted profit, cash flow

These measures are distinct. FT reports cash-flow positivity, and Bloomberg reporters specify positive free cash flow. The full reconciliation of adjusted margins and earnings is still missing here.

Gross sales and peer comparisons

OpenAI and Anthropic account for partner sales differently. The OpenAI $70B-to-$50B comparison change makes a simple leaderboard misleading without a common accounting basis.

05 / THE SOURCE ARCHIVERead the room yourself.

110 posts from 95 accounts. Search by author, phrase, number or topic. Open a source note to see its context and qualifications.

A snapshot.
With a paper trail.

The research reviewed approximately 200 distinct posts and replies, retaining 110 substantive financial posts. Eight provide same-day context before the main public Q3 report. All quote excerpts were checked against captured X text. Original chart attachments were inspected separately while preparing this page.

This is a curated, mostly English snapshot, not a full X archive or a representative sentiment poll. Quotes are short excerpts; longer posts are summarized. Underlying claims carry their own qualifications. The original source images retain their authors’ labels, estimates and opinions.
